6.5 Carrier Information and Courier Service

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture contracts with a private courier service for the pickup of laboratory specimens, including specimens related to defined specific animal health programs, from Regional Offices of the Department and delivery to the PADLS laboratories.  This courier service moves specimens between PADLS laboratories, so that specimens received at one laboratory can be tested at another if appropriate.

Courier Service to the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory, Pennsylvania State University (PSU)

United Parcel Service or the PADLS contracted courier service, Quick Courier (phone 1-800-355-1004, account number 44155) is recommended for shipping to the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory, Pennsylvania State University.  US Postal Service deliveries will go into the University mail, and receipt at the laboratory could be delayed.  Call PSU 814-863-0837 for details.

Specimens for Testing for Rabies

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has contracted with Quick Courier (phone 1-800-355-1004, account number 44155) to carry samples and smaller animals for rabies testing from Pennsylvania veterinarians or private citizens to the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory (PVL), in Harrisburg.  PVL will pay the fee for shipment by the contract courier to the laboratory.  Additionally, specimens less than 20 lbs. may be taken to the Regional Offices of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for free shipment to PVL.  For more information see Rabies Submissions or call PVL (717-787-8808).

When using the courier service, federal packing regulations apply.  Please see Labeling and Packaging guidelines or call PVL (717-787-8808).  The courier will refuse packages not meeting these specifications.
