Animal health plays an important role in the future of Pennsylvania agriculture. The livestock and poultry industries are an integral part of Pennsylvania, with a combined value of more than $2.9 billion. Through the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS), we are able to identify and control animal diseases and help to protect the health, safety and welfare of those who live within the Commonwealth and beyond.
PADLS is comprised of the Department of Agriculture, Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory; the Pennsylvania State University Animal Diagnostic Laboratory; and the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center. PADLS helps ensure that the Commonwealth’s livestock and poultry meet the most stringent export standards. It is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.
